Steven McRoberts, UCA Head Coach
2008 SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE COACH OF THE YEAR

5th year head coach Steven McRoberts will now lead the Sugar Bear volleyball program into its 4th year of Division I competition. Last season saw numerous team and individual records broken for the program. UCA finished with a 24-7 record (highest winning percentage in school history) and they won the Southland East Division for the first time. The Sugar Bears also finished the regular season in second place in the Southland Conference with a record of 12-4, the most conference wins ever. The UCA volleyball team will be coming off of back to back 24 win seasons and will be returning the Conference Player of the Year, Setter of the Year and the Freshmen of the year for the 2009 season! Coach McRoberts overall coaching record now stands at 342 – 129 (72.6%).

Prior to UCA, McRoberts compiled a 251-82 (.754 winning percentage) record during his eight-year tenure at Lubbock Christian University in Texas. The Lady Chaps reached the post-season and finished in the NAIA Top 20 every season from 1998 to 2003. In 1998, McRoberts guided LCU to a 38-4 record and a fifth-place finish at the national tournament.

He won the Sooner Athletic Conference Coach of the Year award six times and NAIA Region VI Coach of the Year three times. The Lady Chaps won seven straight conference titles under McRoberts' guidance.

McRoberts has coached 14 NAIA All-Americans, 28 All-Region players, 41 All-Conference selections and three Southland Conference Freshmen of the Year. His teams have done equally well in the classroom, producing nine Academic All-Americans.

Steven and his wife, Stacy, have a four year old son named Jackson and a 1 year old daughter named Mollie.

 

Todd Hay, UCA Assistant Coach

Todd Hay will begin his fourth year as the University of Central Arkansas volleyball assistant coach. In his three seasons, Hay has helped the Sugar Bears go 67-33, including a school record for winning percentage (24-7, .774) in 2008.

Hay came to UCA from Trinity Christian High School in Lubbock, Texas where he served as head volleyball coach from 1998 to 2005. During his tenure at Trinity Christian, Hay compiled a record of 254-56 in eight seasons. He was named District Coach of the Year four times and guided Trinity to three 4A state titles, including back-to-back championships in 2004 and 2005.

In 2004, Hay led Trinity Christian to a 40-4 record and followed up with a 41-7 mark in 2005. TCHS was 31-1 in 1999 and won their first ever state title. Hay guided Trinity to the state semi-finals on two other occasions.

Hay has received many awards during his career, including the Lubbock Avalanche Journal City Coach of the Year twice, Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools 4A Coach of the Year and KJAK 92.7 Coach of the Year. He has coached 12 All-State players and six District MVP winners during his career.

Todd and his wife, Gemma, have a 6 year old son, Jeffrey Mark.

 

David McFatrich, UCA Assistant Coach

David McFatrich enters his third season on the UCA coaching staff after a successful career as both a coach and a player. The Sugar Bears went 24-9 for a school record .727 winning percentage in his debut season and follwed that up with an even better mark of 24-7.

Prior to UCA, McFatrich spent three years with the Litte Rock Juniors club, where his team compiled a record of 109-38. He started the Fatchmo Volleyball Club, serving the central Arkansas region in the winter of 2007. His club had more than 100 players during its first season and this year the club has doubled that to over 200 local players.

 He is the former captain and setter for the Athletes In Action international volleyball team. McFatrich had several international playing opportunities, including contract offers from Mullhouse in the French Pro League and from VC Oostakker in the Belgium Pro League.

McFatrich and his wife, Sonya, live in Little Rock with their son Luke, age 11, and daughters Ellie Marie, age 8, and Sammi, age 4.
